Job Description

Position Summary:

The Discovery Analyst is responsible for executing the Discovery process to discover assets on the Thermo Fisher network. The Discovery Analyst is responsible for managing the day-to-day administrative support, operation and maintenance of the Discovery process in the ServiceNow platform. The Analyst will report into the Configuration Management Database Manager.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Executes the Enterprise Discovery policy and process in adherence with global and local requirements resulting in the provision of stable and reliable IT Services
  • Responsible for administering ServiceNow Discovery tool on a day to day basis
  • Work with security, network, and other infrastructure team members to obtain required credentials to access discoverable IT assets
  • Perform ongoing tuning of the Discovery scans
  • Continually expands the solution to discover new CIs, new data centers, new CI classes
  • Reviews the data being populated into the CMDB by Discovery and ensures it is accurate
  • Proactively validates the discovered data for completeness and accuracy to ensure the quality of the CMDB
  • Maintains the integrity of the Discovery tool across production and non-production environments
  • Provides escalated support for the Discovery module
  • Responsible for troubleshooting patch /release management issues, and upgrades to the Discovery module
  • Identifies opportunities to improve the Discovery module
  • Implements and maintains the technology solution for Configuration Management process / CMDB automation, including asset tracking and management reporting
  • Coordinates with other Process Analysts and stakeholders to implement requirements from IT and business partners ensuring processes are simple, repeatable, measurable, and achievable
  • Continuously analyzes process data and drives opportunities to improve the process or execution of the process
  • Works with external partners and third party suppliers whenever necessary to support the Process
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Business Management, Project Management or Management Information Systems or equivalent work experience acceptable
  • ITIL Foundations V3 certification desired
  • ServiceNow Certification desired
  • Object-oriented JavaScript, Unix Shell scripting and Windows scripting (wscript/cscript) and Powershell experience
  • Intermediate service administration skills across Operating system platforms including understanding of domain structures, permissions, and group policies
  • Ability to problem solve and work well in complex, ambiguous situations
  • Minimum of 2 year of experience with operational or service management) processes, tools and governance models for service desk, service catalog, configuration management, problem management, incident management, demand management, service level agreement management and capacity management.
  • 3 years of experience working in a similarly complex technical organization
  • Good track record for innovation and measurable process improvements
  • Must have the ability to question the status quo
  • Ability to translate details into specific tasks needed to accomplish a task or solve a problem
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group, executives, managers, and subject matter experts
  • Excellent documentation skills including process flow documentation required
  • Proven ability to navigate the technology environment and work effectively with multiple groups

  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills and time management skills
  • Ability to work independently to not only execute the Discovery process but also improve the Discovery process
  • Ability to understand and complete tasks independently
