Job Description

We are looking for a SQL and BI developer who will be responsible for designing databases and ensuring their stability, reliability, and performance, creating stored procedures holding the business logic for dynamic applications, and building and supporting SSAS cubes. You will also work other developers optimizing in-application SQL statements as necessary, and establishing best practices. You will help solve all database usage issues and come up with ideas and advice that can help avoid such problems in the future. SQL and BI Developer duties will also include creating/maintaining databases for pricing analysis, designing, coding and testing queries and stored procedures, and creating SSIS processes to and from various data sources.

Responsibilities:

  • Help write and optimize in-application SQL statements and stored procedures
  • Ensure performance and availability of databases
  • Design and create database structures, OLAP structures (fine tuning per customer requirements), and Star Schemas
  • Prepare documentations and specifications
  • Collaborate with other team members and stakeholders

Skills and Qualifications:
  • Strong proficiency with TSQL and its variation among popular databases
  • Experience with relational databases
  • Skilled at optimizing large complicated SQL statements
  • Strong experience with Microsoft SSAS, MDX Query development
  • Knowledge of best practices when dealing with relational databases
  • Capable of troubleshooting common database issues
  • Perform ad hoc analyses and prepare reports of findings as needed.
  • Provide subject matter expertise to internal teams on the structure and content of relational databases that contain product, customer, pricing and transactions stores.
  • Must understand the different types of joins, how SQL Server handles memory, IO, and interacts with the operating system.
  • Know how to interpret query plans without the use of the profiler or DB tuning wizard, be able to identify the different types of wait stats, know how to interrogate the status of running processes without impacting system performance.
  • Identify, create and execute opportunities for pricing profitability improvements.
  • Work closely with Pricing Analysts to constantly improve our internal systems to expedite job completion.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Experience with SAS programming is beneficial

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Science, or a related work experience
  • 3-5 years of experience developing highly tuned T-SQL Stored Procedures and functions
  • 3-5 years of experience in database design including referential integrity, with strong understanding of key data elements, table indexing and database tuning
  • Experience designing high performing reporting data structures, STAR Schemas, SSAS Cubes and MDX query building
  • Experience with SSIS, SSRS, and SSAS with understanding of inter-platform data transfers such as Oracle to SQL ETL process and vice versa, and with the following tools: MS SQL Server Management Studio 2012 and MS SQL Data Tools 2012
  • Ability to solve complex problems, strong analytical skills and the ability to trace issues to the root source
  • Highly motivated and self-directed; independent worker, self starter, ability to work without direct supervision
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Skilled in real-world data handling, particularly in situations involving sparse and/or incomplete data sets.
  • Ability to develop and execute on detailed design documents and work plans from high-level requirements and specifications
  • Able to work nights and/or weekends as required

Non-Negotiable Hiring Criteria:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Science, or a related work experience
