Job Description

Position Summary:

Working through a dedicated team and shared resource pool this position will lead a new product introduction (NPI) program for the Spectroscopy business unit Vibrational products portfolio.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Work closely with Product Management to define NPI projects within the Vibrational Products program that will achieve the site’s strategic goals.
  • Use the Product Development Process (PDP) to manage the projects within the Vibrational Products NPI program from conception through launch.
  • Work closely with Product Management to establish clear written specifications for product performance, reliability, industrial design, COGS, regulatory compliance and other requirements.
  • Develop and obtain approval for project internal resource, capex and expense budgets. Work with R&D leadership to incorporate project budgets into the annual operating plan (AOP).
  • Monitor project activities to ensure project remains within established scope and budget limits. Proactively communicate schedule, scope, and/or expense changes to senior management. Obtain approval for revised limits.
  • Collaborate with R&D functional managers to build effective project teams.
  • Utilizing PDP tools, and working through the project team, determine precisely how the product needs to perform in order to realize the product specification.
  • Work through the project team to create, maintain and execute plans as specified by the site PDP.
  • Work through cross-functional management to create NPI project sub-teams in Manufacturing Operations, Product Support, Marketing and Marketing Communications. Establish cross-functional project plans as specified by the PDP.
  • Harmonize efforts of sub-teams with the R&D project team to provide a complete, coordinated implementation of the product launch plan.
  • Work closely with operations management to ensure that new production cell, with associated tools fixtures and processes is established and proven prior to FCS.
  • Oversee third-party collaborations and professional services.
  • Direct the project team’s activities to fit all specifications together in an integrated, manufacturable product design.
  • Develop and execute verification plans to evaluate the design’s overall effectiveness, cost, reliability, and safety.
  • Proactively engage appropriate technical and/or engineering leadership to assess project status and to assist in overcoming problems or obstacles.
  • Provide monthly updates to R&D and Marketing leadership on the status of all the current and near-future projects within the Vibrational NPI Projects Program
  • Lead weekly Gemba review connecting Project Managers and R&D Leadership on the status of all the current projects within the Vibrational NPI Projects Program.
  • Develop and deliver presentations of project status to Site Senior Management or the Division Leadership Team.
  • Partner with Research & Advanced Development (RAD) and Quality & Reliability Engineering (QRE) to develop technologies necessary for future success of the NPI roadmap. Use the RAD and QRE project processes to:
    • Eliminate unworkable ideas
    • Develop impactful product features
    • De-risk key technology
  • Support PDP and other company processes, including proactive suggestion of improvements and implementing changes as required.
  • Provide primary input to functional manager on project team member performance for the purposes of annual performance evaluations. Work closely with functional manager to identify and correct any project team member performance deficiencies.
  • Interact with Customers (end-users) as needed.
  • Travel domestically or internationally, as required.
  • Maintain and enhance the capabilities of your team through individual development and technical succession planning. Serve as mentor to active or aspiring project managers.

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:
  • Minimum BS degree in engineering or scientific discipline
  • A minimum of 5 years experience in new product development leadership in scientific instrument industry.
  • PMP certification
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
