Job Description

Position Summary:

This individual is responsible for leading the North American marketing and merchandising strategy for the Safety and Production business unit within the Fisher Scientific channel. The Marketing Manager, reporting into the Sr. Director, Marketing North America, will drive category-based marketing initiatives - developed from a foundation of strong alignment with Portfolio Management, Commercial, and key Suppliers - to ensure the channel is positioned to meet customer needs, drive growth and support business priorities. This role will collaborate and consult with the VPGM Safety and Production on all critical strategy and decision points.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the North American marketing lead for the Safety and Production category with responsibility to develop marketing and internal communications plans including digital /merchandising/promotional strategies in alignment with and support of the goals and objectives established by the VPGM, portfolio management and commercial team.
  • Establish marketing objectives and strategies for all projects, providing clear business direction to the Marketing Campaign Planning team so they can develop campaign plans to deliver on established goals. Address and resolve questions raised during the creative development process.
  • Seek opportunities to measure all marketing efforts. Provide monthly marketing campaign scorecard metrics.

  • Identify business needs for gathering insights from customers and associates. Collaborate with Insights & Analytics team to structure, field and synthesize the findings into actionable insights for the business.

  • Gather and report on market trends & competitive intelligence to drive market development and share of wallet gains. By means of key customer engagement, sales discussions and other internal or external sources, amass new category trends and demands, identify potential strategic growth initiatives, and create a platform to monitor and act upon these opportunities.
  • Develop yearly platforms focused on customer growth, acquisition and retention, including marketing initiatives to drive YOY segment growth.
  • As needed and in collaboration with Commercial and Portfolio Management teams, build relationships with key customers and strategic suppliers to ensure the business is positioned to leverage new product innovations to meet existing and emerging needs in the market.
  • Serve as strategic category planning lead, partnering with key stakeholders for annual STRAP and AOP development including marketing, market insights and guidance as it relates to business development opportunities.
  • Serve as the marketing lead to support key meetings and conferences including but not limited to North American Sales Meeting, Commercial Manager Meetings, MBR/QBRs, etc.
  • Collaborate with EU partners as needed/warranted
  • Stay current on evolving business-to-business and consumer marketing best practices and provide marketing thought leadership to guide marketing strategies for the Safety and Production business.

    Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of life sciences/safety/ production industry marketing experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing or a scientific field. An advanced degree in business or marketing is preferred.
  • Knowledge of safety and production market, actual working production/cGMP or laboratory experience, or understanding of customer requirements in the production setting is preferred
  • Understanding of channel relationships/distribution business model highly desired
  • Demonstrated track record of developing and leading marketing campaign strategy.
  • Experience working with in house market insight and analytics resource while also taking initiative to source information to guide efforts
  • Ability to function in a complex, matrix business environment is essential
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including presentation experience to large and diverse audiences
  • Ability to develop & implement strategies and sound recommendations based on both quantitative and qualitative inputs with intuitive understanding of financial drivers.

  • Strong skills with Microsoft Office, especially Excel, Powerpoint and Word. Experience with business analytics tools such as PowerBI is preferred.
  • Some travel required (up to 20%)

    Non-Negotiable Hiring Criteria:

  • 7+ years of life science/safety/ production industry marketing experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing or in a scientific field. An advanced degree in business or marketing is preferred.
  • Demonstrated track record of developing and leading marketing campaign strategy
  • Strong skills with Microsoft Office, especially Excel, Powerpoint and Word. Experience with business analytics tools such as PowerBI is preferred.
