SYSTEM ENGINEER - EINDHOVEN

The Mission
The System Integration Group is a multidisciplinary technical team (size: +/-20 persons) that is responsible for system integration of large scale system projects like Titan microscopes. With our team we run average 3 large scale system projects in parallel. Besides system integration we also work on Non Standard Requests to deliver customer specific solutions.
The Position
Major contribution/ownership to the integration aspects of complex new hardware and software projects AND System Owner of at least 1 R&D Microscope. Position description:

  • Responsibilities System Engineer – Project Member Tasks:
    • Provide input during the specification and design phase of new products.
    • Owner or contributor of System Test Process
    • Owner or contributor for creating System Test Documents (including system planning, test description, test methods, number of tests)
    • Owner or contributor for FMEA and/or SRA process
    • Execute system tests or guide others in executing tests
    • Troubleshoot integration issues and report/discuss with designers/PL; suggest improvements to existing prototypes; discuss technical bottlenecks in projects
    • Document test results with “closed” conclusion
    • Maintain an R&D TEM system in the best possible working condition to facilitate the project
    • Maintain an R&D TEM system in the best possible working condition to facilitate demos
    • Take responsibility for the safety (X-ray, electronics, mechanical) around the designated prototype setups. Take routine measurements of the X-ray emission levels and document the results.
    • Communicate frequently with project leaders on progress and technical issues. Suggest alternative solutions.
    • Communicate frequently with OE and GTS project members to transfer knowledge and necessary input.
    • Create PR (Problem Report) Items
    • Travel if necessary (<10%)
  • Responsibilities System Engineer – System Owner Tasks:
    • System Planning: Manage your system planning in cooperation with system users and projects, keep the planning up-to-date
    • System Status:
      • build-up, rebuild, place and replace the microscope system based on projects and lab manager needs
      • Help and train system users if requested or needed
      • Control the system accessories and gain knowledge if needed
      • All accessories (detectors, cameras, ….) operational, fix non-operational accessories. If not possible: discuss with lab manager
      • Keep system in “beam down” state
      • Make sure logbook is up-to-date
      • Use Tool Manager, make sure users use Tool Manager
      • LN2 filling when needed
      • Use Service Cockpit to check your system
      • Create PR (Problem Report) Items
    • System Safety Tasks
      • Weekly check system on X-ray leakage
      • Make sure system is electrical and mechanical safe, if not discuss this with lab manager
      • Keep your microscope room clean
    • System Training: Train users on TOP5 important items (vacuum, beam centred on screen, apertures, compustage height, ….). Goal is less damage to microscope system AND improve self-sustainable system users AND improve system status
  • Responsibilities System Engineer – Field Escalations:
    • Travel if necessary (<10%)


The Requirements
The successful candidate will possess the following combination of education and experience

  • Bachelor or Academic degree in Mechanical, Electronics or Mechatronic engineering.
  • More than 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience with designing and testing of low volume, complex high tech systems.
  • Experience with the different development disciplines (hardware, software, mechanics, mechatronics and physics).
  • Excellent communication skills in English, Dutch is big plus
  • Travel if necessary (<10%)
