The Digital Science group of Thermo Fisher Science, located in Branford, Connecticut is seeking a Database Developer with a minimum of 7 years of commercial software or enterprise software experience with proven success in developing data focused solutions utilizing stored procedures, functions and ad-hoc queries. The position will be focused on data-modeling and SQL Script development. Candidates should be experienced in analyzing business requirements, designing and implementing solutions. Successful candidate should have strong organizational, communication and collaboration skills and must have the ability to communicate with team members and customers.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze requirements to develop ad-hoc SQL statements to correct issue
  • Designing performant solutions; addressing race conditions and database locks
  • Implementation of SQL stored procedures, functions, etc.
  • Troubleshoot and debug database issues to identify solutions
  • Contribute to the maintenance of data models and database documentation
  • Present ideas and recommendations that may have an impact on existing or future systems/applications, products, services or procedures and business processes
  • Adhere to the development process and suggests improvements where appropriate
  • Strive to produce high-quality code with minimal defects. Actively seeks to minimize code and simplify architecture
  • Work with software engineers to optimize SQL
  • Provide Mentoring and Support for Junior Team members as required.
  • Document findings and solutions

Skills & Qualifications
Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or other data or software-related engineer program
  • Minimum 7 years of database development experience including modeling, DML and DDL
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills
  • Experience in data modeling
  • Strong knowledge of database normalization (2nd, 3rd, 4th, and so on)
  • Complete understanding of SQL (ANSII standard)
  • Experience with all standard SQL Objects
  • Hands on experience in developing SQL scripts for automation
  • Experience running diagnostics and performing query optimization and other performance tuning.
  • Hands on experience in SQL Performance Tuning
  • UNIX and shell scripting
  • Ability to perform and optimize analysis on large data sets
  • Experience working with an Entity-Attribute-Value (EAV) data model
  • Ability to work in an Agile environment
  • Knowledge of the Systems Development Lifecycle (SDLC)
  • Excellent English writing and communication skills
  • Desire to learn new skills and improve existing ones

Preferred

  • Experience developing and delivering enterprise level solutions to customers
  • Experience in Life Sciences is a plus
  • Experience with data Partitioning (horizontal, vertical, sharing)
  • Experience with Oracle (PL/SQL); including 12c
  • Experience with Oracle Administrator experience a plus
  • Experience with any of the listed database vendors; Oracle, MySQL, MS SQL Server or PostgreSQL
  • Experience with varying data storage model and management solutions including Hadoop, NVP, No SQL and document database
  • Experience with object relational mapping (ORM) technologies is a plus
  • Experience with Cloud technologies such as AWS, Azure or Google Cloud Platform
  • Java development experience
