As a team member of BioScience Division (BID), the second largest revenue producing organization in ThermoFisher Scientific, our Bioscience Customer Research group is seeking a User Research Manager for our Carlsbad, California location.

The team is mix of qualitative and quantitative researchers who are passionate about understanding customer’s needs, behaviors and attitudes to develop customer centric products, and the user information gathered will directly influence the types of products and feature set.

The ideal candidate must be able to support the design and execution of user-centered research to uncover customer insights that translate into actionable plans aimed at the development of innovative Life Science Research products.

What will you do?
You are a Strategic Thinker and will work with cross-functional teams to design and conduct research to understand customer needs as well as evaluate new and current products using both qualitative studies (field observations, interviews, and prototyping) and quantitative studies (surveys).
You are Data-Driven and will lead efforts to synthesize, interpret, and validate data and communicate your research insights and recommendations to executive leadership and internal stakeholders in a clear and compelling way.

You will demonstrate Business Acumen by closely working across the organization with various stakeholders including product managers, marketing managers, and R&D to identify strategic initiatives and uncover new business opportunities. In addition, you will potentially facilitate workshops and innovation challenges or brainstorming among multidisciplinary teams to inspire and encourage creative thinking.

How will you get here?

A Bachelor’s degree with an advanced degree preferred in user research, anthropology, psychology or biology, biochemistry or another life science area with work experience in user/customer research.
  • Several years of relevant customer research experience in a product development environment.
  • Experience using exploratory qualitative research methodologies including, contextual inquiry and ethnographic field studies, one-on-one interviews.
  • Experience using quantitative research methodologies including, habits & practice studies, concept testing, and conjoint.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Demonstrable ability to plan and conduct customer research projects, in close collaboration with people in a variety of roles
  • Excellent working knowledge of statistics and principles of survey and experiment design, including sampling, data collection and analysis.
  • Ability to clearly, concisely and persuasively communicate research findings.
  • Strong capacity for creativity; ability to brainstorm to come up with creative solutions to business and research problems
  • Comfortable working both collaboratively and independently in a fast-paced, quick turnaround environment
  • Self starter who can translate research into action for cross-functional team
