The Sr. Commercial Product Manager (CPM), Private Label is responsible for implementation of customer facing and commercial initiatives supporting the growth objectives of the private label portfolio in North America. Initiatives will be developed and aligned with NA category and private label portfolio management, marketing, strategic pricing, commercial and customer service organizations. Initiative deployment includes coordination and communication of marketing programs, promotions, pricing, new product launches, sales training and product support for the commercial team and our customers. The CPM will be the primary point of contact for all private label communications with the commercial team.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement commercial plans to ensure that NA Private Label strategy is executed by the NA sales organization.
  • Ensure performance metrics are fully aligned with the NA Private Label strategies, Sales, Marketing & Customer Service organizations.
  • Be the key liaison between sales and PL/PM management to support the field to grow PL, including; samples, literature, promotions, pricing, quality and service issue resolution, new product launches, cross reference tools, web content and search feedback, etc.
  • Partner with Private Label & Portfolio Management and Marketing to determine category focus initiatives, supplier support and associated marketing campaigns.
  • Gather and communicate customer and competitor industry intelligence on private label product offerings, pricing and commercial tactics.
  • Support program account RFP responses as related to private label products including verifying cross-references, assist with SPQs, and providing pricing guidance.
  • Establish sales training requirements for Regional and National Sales Meetings.
  • Provide monthly business updates with the commercial management team, monitor and report on performance by field geographic and segment teams and resolve any systemic challenges related to support for private label growth.
  • Continually assess product / market opportunities / gaps as they relate to the category focus. Communicate potential opportunities to the NA PM/PL team for evaluation and decision making. Equally, monitor and provide structured feedback on competitor activities to both PM & PL, as well as Sales & Marketing functions, where appropriate.
  • Travel, where necessary, to represent the company at industry events and tradeshows, as well as providing support to field sales organizations at regional meetings and with significant customer opportunities.
  • Support operational improvement activities, including service, especially on Asia sourced new products requiring frequent demand inputs. Also product quality issue resolution with customers and support for certifications and other quality requirements from customers.
  • Ensure that the branding for PL is being followed in the field with commercial communications that may be generated outside of marketing.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, operations, or a scientific field.
  • 5+ years of experience in product management, marketing or sales in scientific or related markets.
  • Computer literate with MS Office, Cognos and mainframe skills.
  • Willingness to travel in the field up to 40%.

  • An advanced degree in business or science.
  • Excellent interpersonal, customer orientation and problem solving, can-do attitude.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Multi-tasking experience and flexibility to address immediate priorities and still manage deadlines with longer-term projects and strategic initiatives.
  • Supplier/vendor management experience.
  • Strong influencing skills.
  • Advanced problem solving skills.
