The Technical Support Engineer is a member of the OFI & ELITE GPS group. This group is responsible for worldwide technical support of complex systems in the field worldwide. System level debug of complex hardware and software issues is a primary function for this position. The group supports the Meridian and ELITE families of products. Local field engineers provide the first line of system support and GPS adds the next level of support if needed. The issues encountered by GPS form the basis for service documentation improvements and service requirements. The GPS engineer is mainly responsible for providing technical support to enable quick and proper solutions to the system issues in the field. The GPS engineer develops close relations with colleagues from Customer Service, Corporate Technology, Engineering, New Product Introduction, Manufacturing, Marketing, and Applications. He/She can work independently under stress-situations (time-pressure, expectations), understands the importance of customer satisfaction, and succeeds through dedication, enthusiasm, technical capabilities and enabling a network of expert people within Thermal Fisher.
  • Provide worldwide technical support of Meridian and ELITE product lines. Support includes email, phone, and response to Technical Request Forms (TRF).
  • Onsite support is sometimes required to solve system issues. This requires domestic and international travel. While on the road supporting one customer, email, TRF, and phone support of other customer systems is required. Time management and being able to prioritize issues is key to success.
  • Schedule and conduct cross departmental problem solving meetings between GPS, engineering, and field engineers.
  • Sign off engineering change orders (ECO). This includes extracting and publishing documentation for field engineers and defining new field replaceable units (FRU).
  • Participate in new product introductions with concentration targeted toward servicing of product in the field. This includes extracting and publishing documentation for field engineers and defining new FRUs.
  • Participate in improvement projects for products and processes.
  • Training of field service engineers on how to maintain Meridian and ELITE products.
Position Requirements
The successful candidate will possess the following combination of education and experience:
  • University degree in technical direction or a combination of education and experience that demonstrates the required skills.
  • Experience in high-tech industry environment in service, development of manufacturing.
  • Experience with project management.
  • Experience with analytical equipment (electronics, software, physics, mechanics) such as laser scanning microscopes, photon detectors, thermal cameras.
  • Experience with demanding customers and understanding of the importance of customer relations.
  • Self-starter that is highly productive when not supervised. This is required both in the office and while traveling.
  • Traveling (30% - 50%)
  • Fluent in English (verbal and in writing)
