Bioinformatics Intern

Skills and Abilities

  • Microarray probe specific oligonucleotide hybridization modeling
  • Familiarity with microbial genetics, phylogeny, biological sequence data and microarray data
  • Knowledge of sequence homology and alignment tools such as BLAT, BLAST2
  • Experience in understanding outputs from bioinformatic tools and databases such as DADA2, mothur, QIIME, NCBI RefSeq, GreenGenes, RDP, silva, MetaPhlAn, PiCRUST
  • Proficiency in visualization and presentation of large scale genetic data
  • Source code revision control such as SVN, git, or related systems
  • Parallel computing experience with Torque or Hadoop clusters


Qualifications

  • Masters or PhD Student in bioinformatics, biostatistics, computer sciences, data science, microbial ecology or a related field
  • Demonstrated proficiency in a statistical programming language R or general purpose programming language such as Python
  • Experience with statistical analysis of genetic data with machine learning and multivariate methods, particularly for non-linear regression models
  • Design and implement algorithms and pipelines for analysis of very large data sets from genotyping microarrays
