Patheon offers its clients a broad range of Development and Commercial Manufacturing capabilities and services across a global network of world class facilities, where over 800 products are produced annually, including nearly a fifth of the world’s top selling drugs, delivered to over 60 countries worldwide
As a new member of the Thermo Fisher Scientific family, we are part of the world leader in serving science. And with over $20 billion in annual revenue and 65,000 employees, this is the place to be for ambitious people.
About the Role
This role is designed to build on Patheon’s place within Thermo Fisher by seeking transportation synergies for purchased raw materials and for finished goods. We have a unique opportunity to become more efficient by improving the way that we move materials, leveraging our sister companies to improve our own effectiveness.
Supply Chain is a complex and ever-evolving field. The central driver behind this newly-formed role is to simplify our European supply chain and procurement arrangements and to improve our operating efficiency, through understanding our product flows and leveraging our supplier relationships, resulting in maximising profits, increasing efficiencies and adding value that drives growth.
You will need to develop an in-depth understanding not just of the transportation arena, but of the entire supplier and customer network, and the players in it. You will make this marketplace your own, working with a group of production facilities to seek out synergies and capture the value within them.
You will be confident in taking a strategic role; understanding the market and its challenges, designing the solution and working through a cross-functional team to make it happen. Collaborating with internal colleagues, suppliers and our sister companies in Thermo Fisher Scientific, you will be able to spot value creation opportunities, identify risk, demand requirements and potential customer- and supplier-facing improvements. Such a strategic insight has to be built. And it will be your role to do this.
Establishing a roadmap of objectives and projects to track and reporting on progress and cost efficiencies are essential parts defining success in this role. You will have the ability to capture data from multiple sources and quickly identify trends, problems and opportunities. Having a deep understanding of manufacturing site requirements and expectations is essential, whilst in turn not losing sight of our business objectives.
Our Category Manager will be able to anticipate and capitalize on market trends, identify value potential and build effective relationships to manage our clients and suppliers. As this is a new role you will be entering into new ground. Unless you have the mindset and courage to challenge the status quo, this is not the role for you.
You will possess strong business, commercial and political acumen, with an entrepreneurial spirit. This will be demonstrated through your strong analytical and negotiation skills, your logical approach to complex matters, your strong decision making skills and your ability to think and plan strategically. You will be a natural leader with the ability to deal with ambiguous situations, working with complex issues in a clear and simple way. Your communication skills will be nothing short of world-class, with a demonstrated ability to deal with all stakeholders in a way which suits them and which gets your message across unambiguously.
A degree or equivalent experience in business management, supply chain or procurement will also be required. You are likely to be more at home if you have prior experience of the freight transportation marketplace, but the key requirement is for someone who is flexible enough to be working on strategy one minute, and to drop everything to save the day when there is a problem the next minute. There will be some travel (25-35%), mostly within Europe but some further afield.
In return you will discover resources that match your personal development interests, a culture that welcomes your ideas and opportunities in a way that only a global leader can. And an opportunity to be working alongside enthusiastic colleagues who are dedicated to making a difference to the world. Come and join us to make a difference too.
