Position Summary: This position is within the Fisher BioServices business unit of Thermo Fisher Scientific. The Asst. Project Director at NCI CR is responsible for overseeing the NCI CR government contract repository operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assists the Project Director in all repository matters
  • Responsible for the repository activities in absence of Project Director and also in accordance with the Statement of Work
  • Reviews and approves invoices and vouchers
  • Reviews and as needed prepares all pertinent and contract related reports
  • Receives daily download clinical drug orders, fills out pertinent information, pulls orders for shipment.
  • Assists and guides Warehouse Supervisor and Operations Manager with receiving and inspecting drug shipments.
  • Monitors the supplies expenses
  • Provides information for open label lean board and record open label shipments daily.
  • Provides weekly information for all non-Canadian foreign shipments and warehouse staff updates.
  • Works with warehouse supervisor to determine most efficient means to package unconventional and non-Canadian international clinical drug shipment orders.
  • Proficient in IATA and DOT regulations
  • Oversee performance of daily inventories on selected high activity active open label agents.
  • Oversee counting of all open label active agents on monthly basis.
  • Works with Warehouse Supervisor to ensure two complete inventories per year are submitted at the end of each contract option period.
  • Works with Operations Manager and Project Director to resolve any inventory issues.
  • Works with Return Agent personnel and Operations Manager to maintain hazardous waste area and complete necessary paperwork upon disposal of hazardous waste
  • Oversees packaging of biological, dangerous goods, and infectious shipments
  • Ensure that in-house training on various warehouse procedures is completed annually.
  • Additional duties may be assigned due to contract and business needs.
  • Participate in operation on-call program in support of site 24/7/365 for emergency shipments, receipts, and facility emergencies
  • Respond to client’s inquiries via email, phone or in person efficiently and accurately
  • Requires high level of integrity and reliability
  • Other duties may be assigned to meet business needs.
Basic Minimum Qualifications: The qualifications listed below are representative of knowledge, skill and/or ability. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to complete each essential duty.
  • Requires working proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Requires excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Requires excellent organization skills and the ability to problem solve.
  • DOT and IATA certification and proficiency
  • Good understanding of cGMP requirements
Education/ Experience:
  • Prefers a Master’s Degree in health-related field plus 3+ years repository operations experience in the pharmaceutical field
  • Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in health-related field plus 5 + years repository operations experience in the pharmaceutical field
  • Requires minimum 3+ years management experience
  • Requires extensive experience with pharmaceutical shipping operations, cold chain, inventory management, and purchasing.
Certificates and/ or Licenses:
Dangerous goods and IATA.

Supervisory Responsibility:
Management responsibility of all NCI CR operations staff.

Work Schedule:
8:00AM to 5:00 PM hours, additional after hours and weekends for emergency shipments and receipts and facility concerns as required.

Work Conditions/Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to work in a cold environment with exposure to dry ice, hazardous and infectious agents, marked changes in temperature.
  • Must use personal protective equipment and adhere to safety protocols.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to process and handle materials frozen on dry ice (-78°C)
  • Must be able to work in walk-in freezers or refrigerators periodically.
  • Must be able to use a computer up to 8 hours per day.
  • Must be able to work in a warehouse/repository environment.
  • Must be able to operate a forklift.
