Position Summary

The Director, Oncology Product Management will provide leadership and execution to manage a part of the oncology portfolio in the Clinical Next-Generation Sequencing Division’s (CSD) Oncology assay business in the Life Sciences Group (LSG) of Thermo Fisher Scientific. This person will lead a small team focused on developing and managing clinically focused solid tumor and liquid biopsy oncology NGS assays in the Oncomine family of products. Our targeted sequencing assays are built on the foundation of the Ion Torrent platform and AmpliSeq technology. The products we develop are used by clinical researchers and molecular pathology labs on a routine basis to enable precision genomics. S/he will be responsible for development of product portfolio strategy, product definition, portfolio positioning, and lifecycle management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and lead the solid tumor and liquid biopsy product management team and drive market readiness in delivering new and existing products
  • Work collaboratively with other members of the Thermo Fisher Scientific team (sales and market development) to drive commercial strategy and growth for the business segment
  • Manage worldwide supply, demand, revenue, margin, and pricing for product portfolio; update and present forecasts regularly to management, finance, and manufacturing team
  • Analyze data from market trends, customer requirements, competitive strategy, and identify opportunities for increasing customer and business value through product differentiation
  • Manage the product portfolio lifecycle, including detailed roadmap within the context of broader oncology products by working with broader oncology team. This includes new assay development and corresponding business cases, with due emphasis on revenue growth, install base, and profitability for the portfolio
  • Lead teams through new product development processes from concept through commercialization, including voice of customer research, definition of customer and product requirements and value proposition, manage product launches and sales training to achieve timely launches and commercial objectives
  • Must have proven ability to build relationships and guide teams which include representatives from multiple functional areas, including R&D, Sales, Program Management, and Manufacturing
  • Must have experience in managing multiple stakeholders and resolving conflict within teams
  • Must have excellent communication skills including oral, written and presentation techniques

Leadership Responsibilities

  • Lead, from a product management perspective, critical customer and precision medicine efforts to drive commercial success and key account efforts
  • Lead major commercialization and/or product development initiatives driving multi-functional efforts to deliver revenue objectives and key strategic market position
  • Contributes to overall CSD Oncology product strategy and direction. Collaborates with CSD leadership to successfully commercialize new products, enter new markets, and achieve share and profitability goals by product category and market segment
  • Effectively represents Oncology Product Management and key internal leadership meetings, communicating with colleagues, global leadership team and senior management on progress against objectives and future plans for driving performance
  • Collaborate with other Thermo Fisher organizations to leverage existing capabilities and resources


  • Bachelor’s Degree required, Master’s Degree, or higher preferred
  • 7-10 years of direct product management or marketing experience in the diagnostics, genomics, or medical devices industry; Next generation sequencing experience required
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in marketing, product management or strategy role including participating in market analysis, planning and new product development required
  • Team management experience to delegate and empower teams to achieve success by setting team objectives, guidelines, and removing obstacles
  • A team player, with cross-functional leadership experience that understands collaboration is key to success. The ability to see new business opportunities, set and meet aggressive objectives and develop strong working relationships will be required for succes

  • Executive level communication skills as well as analytical, project management and planning skills necessary
  • Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills
  • An entrepreneurial drive to reach success – a high degree of self-motivation, with the desire to build a new business, especially the ability to pull cross-functional teams together to achieve commercial success
  • Excellent planning and organizing skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to travel ~25%
