Job Description

The General Accountant is responsible for meeting deadlines for the monthly close process and directly supporting the Manager, Financial Processes with the overall control environment.

Successful candidate will demonstrate effective experience in the following key areas:

  • Working with diverse teams
  • Understanding effective internal control environment in accordance with Sarbanes Oxley
  • General accounting in accordance with US GAAP and effective financial reporting processes


Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform accounting activities including journal entries, account reconciliations and analysis
  • Provide backup to the Senior Payroll Analyst – fully cross trained on payroll processes
  • Assist with internal and external audits by taking a lead in preparation/coordination
  • Prepare and review Sales & Use Tax filings
  • Ensure compliance with Sarbanes Oxley and corporate internal control polices
  • Work closely with the Manager, Financial Processes to develop world class internal controls
  • Promote “best practices” – suggest and drive improvements to existing processes
  • Provide analysis and support to finance and operations leadership to ensure proper controls and business management
  • Coordinate with the accounting team in Costa Rica
  • Support general accounting administration – check deposits, delegation forms
  • Other miscellaneous projects and duties as assign

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities necessary to perform essential functions:

  • Knowledge of commonly used accounting concepts, practices and procedures (including Sarbanes-Oxley and GAAP) required
  • Solid understanding of Financial Statements
  • Ability to accurately process high volumes of work, prioritize duties, meet deadlines, and work independently while maintaining strong relationships with internal and external customers
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to develop high levels of credibility and forge solid professional relationships with all levels of the organization, including upper management
  • Team-oriented focus
  • Desire to advance to a position of more responsibility within the Finance Department
  • Ability to be flexible in work schedule as business requirements dictate (month-end close)

Non-Negotiable Hiring Criteria:

  • Minimum Bachelor Degree - Accounting
  • 2 years of accounting experience (preferably in public accounting or a manufacturing environment)
  • Advanced Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook skills
  • Must have some experience with ERP systems (preferably SAP)
