Job Description

How will you make an impact?

The Staff Engineer will provide a wide variety of engineering services in a dynamic and supportive environment. Responsibilities include product and equipment design, manufacturing process improvements, selection and start-up of new automated equipment and continuous improvement of our processes and products across the organization.

What will you do?

  • Design:
    • Provide design engineering for products including injection molded products, laboratory instruments, components, and packaging
    • Design new production equipment, tooling, fixtures, and manufacturing workstations
    • Make design improvements to existing products and manufacturing equipment

  • Manufacturing Equipment and Processes:
    • Investigate, specify, and implement new manufacturing equipment and processes for new products
    • Identify opportunities for automation, research options, and implement to reduce costs and improve quality
    • Optimize existing processes to reduce costs, improve quality and reliability
    • Support Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement programs to eliminate waste, reduce costs, and improve customer service
    • Provide direction and technical decision making for management involving capital asset purchases and expenses for projects and/or strategic activities
    • Provide project management including project schedules, cost tracking, status reports, conducting team meetings, communicating issues and progress to management

  • Skills:
    • Communication – Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective interpersonal interactions and to sell initiatives and proposals. Good writing skills for preparing specifications, experimental plans, and operating procedures.
    • Initiative – Ability to recognize a problem or opportunity and initiate efforts to improve the situation.
    • Leadership - Ability to manage projects, form and lead cross-functional teams to develop plans, build consensus, assign responsibilities, and follow-up to achieve team goals.
    • Organization - Strong organizational skills with superior analytical capability.
    • Team Player - Must be a flexible team player capable of carrying multiple projects simultaneously and wearing many different hats depending on the situation and circumstances.

How will you get here?


  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering is required, Mechanical Engineering degree, preferred


  • A minimum of five years engineering experience

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Position will require working in a wide variety of environments including office, laboratory, hazardous chemical production, cleanroom, general production and warehouse, occasionally outdoors around the site, on roof-tops, in mechanical spaces, interstitial spaces, etc.
  • Design engineering – Proficient in computer-aided-design (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, etc) and analysis for the design and analysis of products and equipment
  • Production equipment – Experience with automated production equipment in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience with equipment design, specifications, fabrication, installation, and validation
  • Proficient in PC applications, including Word, Excel, and CAD
  • Occasional travel to equipment providers, suppliers, other company sites, trade shows, etc.
  • Requires occasional lifting up to 50 pounds
