Position Summary: This position is within the Fisher BioServices business unit of Thermo Fisher Scientific. The Operations Manager position within the NCI CR government contract performs and oversees the daily shipping, receiving and inventory for the warehouse/repository operations and manages operations technicians.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Receive, store and ship clinical drug request orders
  • Oversee preparing and assisting in shipping returns to manufacturers.
  • Perform and assist in the inventorying of all clinical agents, completing all inventory adjustments for agent destruction and/or returns to manufacturer.
  • Prepare monthly reports for returns, prepare and inspect barrel maintenance reports, complete and prepare destruction reports for external sites.
  • Revise warehouse SOP’s as required,
  • Prepare and inspect dangerous goods documentation.
  • Prepare/assign various label projects as needed
  • Act as liaison between NCI, and FBS IT
  • Assist in preparing monthly reports, solve shipping problems and create queries to help rectify discrepancies,
  • Compile daily CDR’s with the appropriate emails, note and resolve discrepancies,
  • Assist in monitoring the facility for possible safety problems, repository maintenance and housekeeping.
  • Manage daily tasks related to all aspects of the NCI Inventory System/ DARTS computer system. Maintain/assign the required user associations related to the NCI/NIH domain.
  • Act as liaison between NCI, CTIS, and BioServices IT departments for all computer aspects including hardware and software.
  • Assist in maintaining appropriate updates relating to computer security, inspect daily emails to determine the appropriate actions required for inventory management.
  • Manage and monitor Maximo, Trackwise, iComply
  • Manage Kaye Temperature Monitoring System
  • Act as liaison for facility destruction management vendors.
  • Manage repository technicians, set goals and perform midyear and annual reviews
  • On average spend 70% of daily performing warehouse activities, and 30% on administrative aspects of the operation
  • Participate in operation on-call program in support of site 24/7/365 for emergency shipments, receipts, and facility emergencies
  • Respond to client’s inquiries via email, phone or in person efficiently and accurately
  • Requires high level of integrity and reliability
  • Other duties may be assigned to meet business needs.

Basic Minimum Qualifications: The qualifications listed below are representative of knowledge, skill and/or ability. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to complete each essential duty.
  • Requires knowledge of inventory and supply management.
  • Requires good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Requires computer skills in Windows.

Education/ Experience:
  • Prefers a Master’s Degree in health-related field plus 3+ years of repository operations experience in the pharmaceutical field
  • Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in health-related field plus 5+ years repository operations experience in the pharmaceutical field
  • Prefers 2+ years of supervisory experience.
  • Requires experience with pharmaceutical shipping operations, cold chain, inventory management, and purchasing

Certificates and/ or Licenses:
Certification in DOT, IATA, and 49CFR hazardous/dangerous goods materials.

Supervisory Responsibility:
Manages operations technicians.

Work Schedule:
8:00AM to 5:00 PM core hours, additional after hours and weekends for emergency shipments and receipts and facility concerns as required.


Work Conditions/Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to work in a cold environment with exposure to dry ice, hazardous and infectious agents,
  • Must use personal protective equipment and adhere to safety protocols.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs
  • Must be able to process and handle materials frozen on dry ice (-78°C)
  • Must be able to work in walk-in freezers or refrigerators periodically
  • Must be able to use a computer up to 6 hours per day.
  • Must be able to work in a laboratory and warehouse/repository environment.
  • Must be able to operate a forklift.
