As the Director, PPI you'll be responsible for the development of strategies, prioritization, execution and implementation of the Practical Process Improvement (PPI) – into the SG&A Functions and the extended supply base.
What you'll do
You will work closely with Functional leads and Divisional / Global Sourcing organizations to drive and leverage the PPI Business System to meet their goals and objectives. You'll lead strategy deployment sessions, facilitate process mapping, facilitate kaizen events and provide senior level coaching and PPI Support. You will proactively drive engagements (cross-company initiatives and kaizen events) with strategic and key suppliers, play a critical role in advancing sourcing strategies in addition to helping streamline and standardize how Thermo Fisher interfaces with supply base to become a world class organization.
Initial Key Responsibilities:
- Support SG&A functions in development and deployment of a PPI roadmap to make step-level changes in performance (productivity and other Key Performance Indicators).
- Support Global Sourcing strategy by engaging with key suppliers to deliver beneficial outcomes that will enhance Thermo Fisher's supply base, exceed quality, compliance, service and provide for sustained margin improvements
- Develop and execute robust supplier engagement program, collaborate with sourcing and supply chain teams to secure material supply base, develop targeted improvement workshops with business critical suppliers to improve quality, value and productivity. Strengthen business relationships with strategic suppliers and communicate the PPI business system to drive continuous improvement into the extended supply chain
- Improve end user experience and overall business value, collaborating with cross functional teams to leverage the PPI Business System in addressing risky suppliers
- Identify, research, develop and implement lean tools and methods while collaborating with the PPI-Lean Enterprise group. Ideal methodologies would emulate TPS; Lean Leadership, Value Stream Mapping, Kaizen Blitz, Cell Design, Material Flow, 5S + Visual Management, Lean Sourcing, etc.
- Challenge organizational leaders as necessary to create an action-based culture of continuous improvement and accountability to improve their KPI’s, including growth, productivity, asset utilization, inventory, and customer allegiance.
- Work with the cross functional teams to create and communicate ongoing Supplier PPI strategy, aligned with the Thermo Fisher’s Mission and Vision.
- Identify best practices within the company, and outside of Thermo Fisher, and serve as a conduit for best-practice sharing. Proliferate PPI and lean thinking throughout the organization.
How you'll get here
A lean master with extensive experience driving a lean business system across a cross-functional organization with outstanding business results
- Bachelors degree from an accredited higher learning program required, with majors in engineering, science, operations or business; MBA preferred
- 5+ years, hands-on track record of implementing successful TPS-based Lean programs with value-stream mapping and follow-up kaizen events, focusing on cell design, material flow, 5S, visual factory, lean in the office, lean sourcing, etc, and experience as a lean sensei coaching facility leadership and employee teams
- Extensive formal lean training, and comprehensive knowledge of Lean and continuous improvement methodologies and tools
- 10+ years of career progression in a high-velocity manufacturing business, including experience in fabrication, assembly, and testing of electro-mechanical products; broad leadership roles from disciplines such as engineering, quality, or product management
- Broad knowledge of multi-functional, multi-site, 500+ employee, global organizational processes and financial business methods
- Superior leadership skills with proven ability to effectively manage and develop a diverse team of people, and facilitate effective cross-cultural business inter-action
- Detail oriented with the ability to see bigger picture and envision step-change scenarios
- Electro-mechanical comprehension sufficient to understand the operation of production equipment and facility systems and to engage in problem-solving discussions on products produced.
- Financial literacy sufficient to understand Financial Statements and Budgets.
- Proficiency in the Microsoft suite of software and understanding of ERP systems
- Great communicator at all levels of the organization, including accomplished written, oral and presentational skills.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English; multi-lingual preferred
- High ethical standards to support a professional business code of conduct
- Self-motivated, with a bias for action.
- Initially, able to travel 65% domestically and internationally, and occasionally in the US and internationally in potential, subsequent Operations role
