We are looking for an Electronics Firmware & FPGA Engineer for our Analytical Instrumentation solutions, which drive our Bulk Elemental Analysis X-Ray and Optical Emission Spectrometer product portfolio.

Electronics Firmware & FPGA Engineer

With your technical expertise you manage individual project priorities, deadlines and deliverables. You design, develop, test, maintain and enhance core firmware components for our Analytical Instrumentation solutions.

This primarily involves developing and enhancing instrument firmware specifically in our instrument’s signal acquisition and processing chains. Secondarily, you will be responsible for devising our next-generation embedded firmware platform while participating to sustaining engineering activities. Finally, you will be involved in technical feasibility/proof of concept projects and project management activities.

Responsibilities: ​
  • Design, implement, maintain and enhance our embedded hardware and firmware platforms for our OE and X-Ray spectrometers
  • Collaborate with other teams (locally or globally) across Thermo Fisher Scientific such as R&D, Operations, Quality and Technical Support
  • Document your work and share know-how with team
  • Keeping yourself up-to-date on the leading edge technologies and methodologies

  • MSc or Ph.D. in in Microelectronics/Electrical/Electronics Engineering, or scientific topic with knowledge of Electronics or equivalent (i.e. Physics)
  • Min. 5 years of experience in embedded firmware development
  • Solid analytical and problem solving abilities
  • Experience with building and launching scientific analytical instrumentation products
  • Strong knowledge in designing FPGA (e.g. on Altera / Xilinx toolchains) for signal conditioning and digitizing
  • Strong knowledge of ARM-based SoC (e.g Cortex-A8/A9, Cortex-M0), DSPs (e.g. TI C2000) and legacy architectures (e.g. ColdFire)
  • Experience in manufacturing with a focus on DFM and DFT
  • Experience in modeling and implementing high-level C++ OOP code on embedded targets on Real-Time Operating Systems (Express Logic ThreadX) or equivalent.
  • Strong knowledge of OOP software development in C++ and in C#
  • Solid experience in C/C++, C#/.NET. WPF is a plus.
  • Extensive experience using Spice simulators for circuit analysis (i.e. LTSpice, MATLAB)
  • Professional experience of Altium Designer (schematics capture, layout and fabrication)
  • Fluent in English (Technical), French is a plus
  • Team player, able to manage small projects locally or remotely (multi-site)
  • Business acumen is favored
