Job Description

  • Act as a leader in the Operations function by designing and implementing quality systems, and advising business leaders on quality and manufacturing standards applicable to the business being served.
  • Ensure we maintain compliance with current EHS standards and good laboratory practice.
  • Manage the Media Formulation and Product Performance functions for the Lenexa site, including managing through other leaders within these functions.
  • Drive initiatives encompassing the Business Leaders and operations teams.
  • Develop, write and implement all quality control procedures, processes and standards, using lean management standards and controls.
  • Improve safety, quality, reliability, capacity, yields and cost of existing processes. Monitor uptime trends and analyze data to drive targeted improvements.
  • Identify and implement select improvement projects to production processes, methods and controls, including scope development, justification and execution as well as potential capital investment analysis.
  • Provide technical support for project start-ups, test runs and special procedures.
  • Work closely with the manufacturing, planning, and distribution departments to troubleshoot and solve problems.
  • Liaison between the operations and technical communities to drive efficiencies and optimize chemical production methods.
  • Assist engineering team in development of improved process instrumentation and control strategies, process safety, yields, capacity and uptime performance.
  • Assist in long-term departmental planning.
  • Organize the staff and workload to meet or exceed departmental performance standards and achieve business key performance indicators.
  • Manage employee activities, including hiring, firing, disciplinary action, and performance appraisals
Minimum Requirements:
  • Undergraduate degree in biological sciences, microbiology, chemistry or engineering.
  • ​5+ years in clinical microbiology or equivalent experience in quality control or chemical process laboratory.
  • Supervisory experience.
Preferred Requirements:
  • Graduate studies in Microbiology
  • DOE and process control project experience
  • Root cause analysis/problem solving
  • Expertise in process controls and process automation
  • Demonstrated success working in a complex, ideally global, matrix organization.
  • Familiar with setting up standard procedures and processes, experience in lean management
  • Detail oriented and efficient, with the ability to redirect focus quickly and effectively.
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Prudent and practical decision-making abilities, a team player, and can work independently without direct supervision.
  • Familiarity with SAP
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs
