Job Description

Pushing the boundaries of discovery
With more than 60 years of innovation and leadership, our company enables customers to find meaningful answers to questions that accelerate breakthrough discoveries, increase productivity, and ultimately change the world. We design, manufacture, and supports\\ the broadest range of high-performance microscopy workflows that provide images and answers in the micro-, nano-, and picometer scales.
Combining hardware and software expertise in electron, ion, and light microscopy with deep application knowledge in the materials science, life sciences, electronics, and natural resources markets, the worldwide team of 3200 people is dedicated to customers' pursuit of discovery and resolution to global challenges.

Thermo Fisher Scientific acquired FEI Company in September of 2016 as a part of the Analytical Instruments Group (AIG) in the newly-formed Materials and Structural Analysis Division (MSD).

Check out these video’s to get more insight in what it means to work on our complex High-Tech Transmission Electron Microscopes. These high-end tools are being produced in our cleanrooms in Eindhoven, the Netherlands.

The Mission
The global production team is charged with the delivery of complex electronic systems on time with the defined product quality. The assembly team works to achieve production goals through the values of safety, quality, on-time delivery, cost control and continuous improvement. We work on continually improving our performance by actively seeking feedback from our internal and external customers and by open and direct feedback to our suppliers. At our site in Eindhoven we produce our high end transmission electron microscopes and our accelerators.
For this particular role we seek an assembler for our accelerator (Field Emission Gun) This accelerator is the source of our transmission electron microscopes. An Accelerator (Field Emission Gun) makes it possible to “Suck” electrons out of a sharp (tip radius ~500 nm) metal tip by strong electric field which generates an electronic beam used for microscopic purposes. An accelerator is built in approx. 22 days. This work is done in our state of the art cleanrooms where you will work in a team of 10 colleagues. You will be trained to learn all aspects and all modules of our accelerator.

The Position
Responsibilities and deliverables include:
  • Performs a wide variety of electronic or electro-mechanical assembly operations on assemblies or sub-assemblies of this accelerator, reviews this via statistic process analyses. (SPC)
  • Determines and/or follows methods and sequence of operations in performing wiring, component installation, hand soldering and cable harnessing on assembly units.
  • Makes setups and adjustments holding tolerances to blueprint specifications.
  • Follows standard practices and procedures in analyzing situations or data from which answers can be readily obtained. Troubleshoots on issues within the accelerator.
  • Reports back quality related problems to suppliers, via our systems(teamtrack)
  • Proactively thinks along in process improvement within the department.

The Requirements
The successful candidate will possess the following combination of education and experience:
  • Typically requires 2-8 years of related experience, or a combination of education, training and experience that demonstrate the required skills. Preferably Vocational education (MBO) Electronics, mechatronics, applied physics or mechanics.
  • Familiarity with various mechanical and electrical measuring equipment.
  • Preferably knowledge of vacuum technique.
  • Familiarity with Windows and other PC based software.
  • Able to safely lift and manipulate 35 pounds.
  • Ability to read work instructions and assembly drawings.
  • Excellent manual dexterity - ability to work with small objects and microscopes.
  • Ability to handle common industrial chemicals safely.
  • Superior hand/eye coordination.
  • Quick learner with verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to use a variety of small hand tools.
  • Ability to work well with a team.
