How Will You Make an Impact?

The Chemistry Test Engineer evaluates and tests instrumentation products from original concept through post-production to verify that they function according to specifications and standards.

What will you do?

• Test products and compares observed performance to specifications and documentation.
• Identifies, analyzes, and documents defects, questionable functions, errors, and inconsistencies in product performance.
• Creates test cases and test data, interacts with project manager and team in order to manage the performance test criteria of sub-projects.
• Works with all levels of the development team to resolve problems and ambiguities.
• Helps to drive the project to keep it on schedule.
• Reviews computer logs and reports to identify program processing errors and possible improvements.
• Documents, tracks, and communicates test plans, test results, analysis, and unresolved problems.
• Participates in product design specification review process.
• Creates new test procedures and test cases for new functionality.
• Recommends program improvements or revisions to programmers and system analysts.
• Contributes to establishment of standards and procedures for program design and testing.
• Establishes benchmarks for product performance.
• Identifies product variances from standards and suggests modifications to conform.
• Assists Manufacturing in developing FOQ protocols and training manufacturing staff in executing those protocols.
• Conducts compatibility tests with other software programs, hardware, multiple operating systems, and network environments.
• Reviews and contributes to product documentation.
• Creates and executes automated test scripts using testing software programs.
• Installs, maintains, and uses testing software programs.
• Monitors product performance after implementation to prevent recurrence of program operating problems and ensure efficiency of operation.
• Responds to inquiries from users and technical support regarding functions and operations of software programs.
• Assists users to isolate possible product problems after release.
• Trains and supports internal and external users when Product Management escalates a problem to Engineering.



How will you get there?


Education

Bachelor’s degree in engineering, analytical chemistry, or related field.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities


  • Experience with analytical chemistry or new product instrument development
  • Test engineering experience preferred.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from stakeholders
  • Strong problem solving and analysis skills
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work with cross-functional groups
  • Ability to deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Knowledge of MS Access or proprietary software and defect tracking Database software; Excel Spreadsheet software and Microsoft Word Processing software or equivalent.
