Job Description

Essential to Thermo Fisher Scientific’s innovation in new products is to understand both investment and outcomes. This position will partner with the broader product management and portfolio community to enable a consistent enterprise level view of our portfolio (both pipeline and launched products), provide regular visibility into our R&D investment, and enable consistent performance tracking for future investments. This person will be responsible for innovation portfolio analytics along with enterprise systems used for portfolio analysis and reporting. Candidates for this position should have experience and knowledge of best in class innovation portfolio metrics along with systems that support and manage the data required for the development of portfolio analytics.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyzes data and provides views for reporting of key portfolio metrics
  • Evaluates current financial and metric tracking to improve integration of reporting and continuous improvement in accuracy and robustness
  • Uses customer-based insights and customer interviewing techniques to gather and define key business and functional requirements for portfolio reporting, documenting requirements, validation tests, and SOPs
  • Drives continuous improvement and automation of key processes
  • Leads modeling and analysis to drive business decisions as needed
  • Designs and implements dashboards and provides visibility to strategically critical programs to enable consistent enterprise performance tracking and feedback loop for future investments
  • Independently synthesizes multiple data sources to formulate assessments regarding key indicators for portfolio performance and develops recommendations on current or future investments
  • Review R&D productivity opportunities, drive those selected to move forward
  • Creates change management tools to communicate new systems or processes and works with platforms and portfolio leaders on implementation

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required; preferably in Physics, Biology, Chemistry or in a related science or engineering field
  • Three to five years of product, portfolio and/or financial planning and analysis experience
  • Strong project management skills with proven track record in financial and process metrics. Experience in creating and maintaining large databases, is essential.
  • Ability to interview stakeholders and translate to solid requirements, influence without direct authority key to success.
  • Prior experience working with enterprise tools and systems
  • Must be hands on – roll-up your sleeves kind of team player
  • Superior organizational and planning skills
  • Ability to influence and engage business partners, peers; possess ability to effectively interface with senior management and all other levels of the organization
  • Self-reliant, problem solver and results oriented
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interpret and summarize financial analysis results in a clear, concise, accurate manner
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail and the ability to consistently deliver a high quality work product
