Position Summary:

The Director of HR Communications and Engagement is an exciting new role for an experienced individual to spearhead HR Communications and Employee Engagement across all regions for Thermo Fisher Scientific. The role encompasses key aspects of how our HR programs connect to our employees through communications and employee engagement initiatives. The role is critical in driving HR communications excellence and process improvement across the HR organization, as well as in creating an environment that motivates and inspires employees. This individual will develop strategies, programs, and plans to drive the employee value proposition and engagement for our most critical asset – our people.


Primary Responsibilities:

Communications:

  • In collaboration with the Corporate Communications team, serves as a strategic communications partner supporting HR leadership and the function by providing counsel on HR communications that reinforces our company’s Vision, Mission and 4i Values and how our work contributes to the company’s success
  • Partners with HR Leadership to develop the overall strategy and calendar for communications around HR programs
  • Leads, manages and executes HR change communications initiatives
  • In partnership with HR program managers, connects, manages and executes internal communications strategy around our HR programs in order to effectively communicate initiatives to employees across the organization in a clear and consistent way
  • Develops and manages HR communications through numerous channels, including face-to-face, print, e-mail, intranet and other channels that may not yet be in use
  • Proactively identifies opportunities to build processes and standards in order to add value, solve problems and address the communications needs of HR.
  • Drives the strategy, development and maintenance of HR sites on iConnect, Thermo Fisher’s company intranet, to meet existing and future functional needs and to create a platform that enables HR to more effectively connect and collaborate

Employee Engagement & Employee Involvement Survey
  • Manages the development, measurement and execution of our Employee Involvement Survey
  • Creates and deploys employee recognition strategies, including reviewing and making recommendations for departmental recognition programs.
  • Coordinates and facilitates focus groups, surveys, town halls, one-on-one interviews, and other methodologies.
  • Ensures a continuous perspective on the employee experience, as informed through multiple data points including quantitative and qualitative data.

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:
  • Self-starter, detail-oriented, pro-active, able to work independently as well as in teams
  • Ability to quickly grasp complex subject matter and translate it into messaging that is easily understood by employees at all levels; ability to determine which information is appropriate for which audiences and for which channels
  • Demonstrated ability to influence others, especially at the executive level
  • Must be able to think strategically within the ‘big picture’ framework of the company, while also finding innovative ways to work with others in the EMEA region to localize the company’s messages
  • Ability to work well under pressure and tight deadlines
  • Experience in leading employee communications during an acquisition a strong plus; experience in crisis communications and organizational change are musts
  • Demonstrated experience in managing multiple, complex projects simultaneously, developing metrics and delivering measurable results
  • Excellent management and leadership skills, including the ability to manage remotely

  • Experience in (non-technical) intranet development to ensure optimum effectiveness for employees, including use of social media; SharePoint experience highly preferred

Non-Negotiable Hiring Criteria:
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in employee and change management communications for a large, global, publicly traded company
  • Deep knowledge of employment, information and consultation and employee relations regulations in Europe
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, English, or related field
  • Minimum of five years of experience in interacting with executive leadership and making recommendations for employee communications messaging and strategy, based on needs
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills


Travel: 5-10%
