Job Description

Position Summary:

The PPI (Practical Process Improvement) Business System Leader is responsible for enabling PPI Business System maturity within the Microbiology Division (MBD). Responsibilities include training, coaching, mentoring and direct application of lean tools and concepts across all business functions within MBD. These functions include; manufacturing operations, customer service, supply chain, finance, human resources, sales & marketing and R&D. The PPI Business System Leader will work with the MBD leadership teams to achieve significant improvements across a balanced scorecard with a focus on Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost. This position has a direct responsibility to the MBD leadership team to assist in defining and executing strategies that leverage the PPI Business System to drive continuous improvement and profitable growth.

Key Responsibilities:

  • In alignment with the Divisional PPI Business System Strategic Roadmap, Corporate Implementation Framework and the MBD annual strategic plan, develop the annual MBD specific PPI Business System strategic roadmap and lead implementation
  • In conjunction with the MBD Leadership Team, MBD Operations Leadership Team and Corporate PPI team, successfully execute the MBD PPI Business System strategic roadmap
  • Work closely with the MBD leadership team and PPI Lean Core Team to identify ways to accelerate culture change and embed the PPI Business System as a “way-of-life” within MBD
  • Partner with other Business Unit (BU) PPI Business System Managers to manage and support cross-BU improvement activity
  • Conduct training events in areas such as lean leadership, value stream mapping, kaizen blitz, waste and variation elimination, material flow, 5S, visual management, lean sourcing, lean office, built-in quality, 3P etc.
  • Provide “sensei-type” coaching to leadership to develop their Lean expertise over time
  • Identify best practices within and outside the company, and serve as a conduit for best-practice sharing and implementation
  • Challenge organizational leaders as necessary to create an action-biased culture of continuous improvement and proliferate PPI and Lean thinking throughout the organization
  • Partner with Finance personnel to evaluate project savings estimates, validate reported PPI benefits, and ensure accurate accounting of PPI Productivity
  • Facilitate Kaizen events to improve productivity and accelerate growth
  • Facilitate Strategic Policy Deployment sessions to develop annual strategic plans across MBD
  • Participate in reporting processes as part of the MBD Management Operating System; Champion, track, measure and report on PPI savings and PPI Business System maturity monthly
  • May periodically be assigned specific projects within MBD or across the company, which align with the MBD strategic plan and company goal tree objectives

    Minimum Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree in engineering, science, operations or business
  • Experience working in the Toyota Production System (TPS), Danaher Business System (DBS), Honeywell Operating System (HOS) or other recognized Lean business system
  • Experience coaching alignment between strategic business plans and Lean improvement plans
  • Formal Lean training and comprehensive knowledge of Lean and continuous improvement methodologies and tools
  • Proven implementation track record delivering results

  • Able to travel domestically and internationally up to 25%
  • Broad knowledge of multi-functional, multi-site, global organizational processes and financial business methods
  • Detailed knowledge of quality theory and lean tools and methodologies
