Position Summary:

The Sr. Manager, Division Strategy & Business Development will work as part of a high profile team responsible for the development and execution strategy and business development for the Materials and Structural Analysis Division of Thermo Fisher Scientific worldwide. The Division Strategy & Business Development team supports the division’s strategic planning process, provides related competitive intelligence for senior management, manages large-scale strategic programs, as well as drives inorganic growth strategies and strategic partnerships with the BU and functional partners across the division.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Drive strategic planning for the division which includes the development of the annual strategic plan as well as conducting industry, market, and competitive analysis to support strategic plans and management decision making
  • Lead PMO-type strategic programs including post-merger integration, synergy activities, new business model development as assigned in connection with Company & Division’s goals
  • Manage business development for the division including both M&A and partnerships: identify, research, analyze, value & execute partnerships, acquisitions, joint ventures, and investments in partnership with Corporate Development
  • Perform potential deal target and related competitive analysis including evaluation of public / SEC filings, Wall Street research, market reports, and primary research as required
  • Develop and deliver key presentations for internal stakeholders, customers, employees, and partners

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

MBA with undergraduate degree and a minimum of five years of experience in Strategy, Corp Development and/or Program Management in the areas of corporate and business unit strategy development, program management, and business development activities including acquisitions, joint ventures, and strategic partnerships.
  • Will consider non-MBA equivalent experience at top-tier consulting or accounting firms provided there is significant evidence of contribution to strategy, program management and/or M&A, partnership activities or client support within those firms.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and executing corporate strategy
  • Driving and managing strategic programs to successful completion
  • Analyzing and participating in business transactions or business case development including acquisition evaluation, modeling and financial analysis
  • Proven track record supporting and managing transactions
  • Ability to understand the various business unit goals and identify inorganic and/or strategic partnership opportunities to meet them
  • Experience and demonstrated aptitude both managing and prioritizing multiple projects and initiatives
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. Specifically, facility in distilling complex business ideas into simple slides for senior decision-makers to absorb efficiently
  • Must be able to interact with executives and handle high pressure settings with confidence
  • Work independently with limited day to day contact with manager and in a global matrix environment
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Powerpoint, Excel
  • Life science or healthcare experience is a plus
  • Willingness to travel up to 50%, both domestic and internationally, as required
