Thermo Fisher Scientific is rapidly growing our IT capacity with a focus on Pittsburgh as a center for digital operations. As a global leader in serving science, we need to stay on the cutting edge, and digital solutions are a major component of that. Gone are the days where scientists would peruse our print catalog. While they look to us to provide supplies, services and lab equipment to assist them in their scientific research, education, genetic testing and diagnostics, nowadays they go online.
Although we are based in Waltham, MA with a presence in 50 countries, Thermo Fisher Scientific has long had roots in Pittsburgh, PA—Fisher Scientific was founded there in 1902. As we continue to stay at the forefront of the industry, we see the continued importance of embracing digital. As a result, Pittsburgh has become our largest IT center, with a team diligently working to achieve digital success and continuity across the company.
Ryan Snyder recently moved to Pittsburgh to take on the role of VP of IT Customer Channels. In the greater effort to “bridge the gap between business strategy and IT,” Snyder foresees the modernization of the company, providing an overall superior and more compelling experience for the customer.
Another vital player in ensuring the success of these efforts is Randy Carter, VP of Global Infrastructure Services. As the manager of all data centers and the global network, Carter is responsible for keeping all 500 sites and all 50,000 employees connected. Carter and his team strive to maintain a network that allows all aspects of the company to utilize technology to their advantage.
It has been no small feat to take on the challenge of bringing such a large company into the digital age, but it has undoubtedly been a significant and successful initiative—one that will play a huge part in the company’s future. We know our tech teams and our leadership will be instrumental in the growth of this company and value their creativity and ingenuity.
Block quote: “We have a culture of respect. We have very respectful leadership that allows you to try new things. Failure is a learning experience. We have fun seeing each other succeed. What we’re doing here truly has a positive impact on people across the world.” – Ryan Snyder, VP of IT Customer Channels
