“I work on the Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) Regulatory Affairs team. I am responsible for managing in vitro diagnostics (IVD) and the regulatory compliance activities within our region. In vitro diagnostics (IVD) are tests that can detect diseases, conditions, or infections in our products. Regulatory compliance is important because it shows that Thermo Fisher Scientific is aware of and adhering to the regulations within distinct regions. For example, in Europe, when we put new in vitro diagnostic medical devices onto the market, they are required to bear a mark known as the “CE” mark, a declaration that the product meets all requirements and can be freely marketed within the European Union. In the instance of a product recall, Regulatory Affairs is responsible for alerting competent authorities within our region where the product was sold. My team helps Thermo Fisher Scientific comply with regulations, ensuring that our high quality products reach our customers.”

“I work as an Account Manager in sales and am responsible for the key accounts in Switzerland. I am part of a great team and work closely with six other people. As a sales person, my priority is our customers. I answer all of their email requests and questions, schedule customer calls, visit them in their different labs, and work to resolve any issues or complaints. I help customers with their needs like selecting the most suitable laboratory consumables, instruments, chemicals, and bioreagents. I help them find cost effective solutions and take any opportunity to promote our branded products when I see competitors’ products in their labs. Ultimately, it’s my goal to provide my customers with excellent service, build relationships with them, and ensure they know we are here to support them as a trusted partner.”

“I am employed in Thermo Fisher’s Financial Shared Services. I work to control and report our financial figures accurately and in alignment with our corporate policies and timeline. I prepare budgets, report figures, and check for analysis deviations to help in the decision-making process for our businesses. I collaborate with external and internal audit and tax authorities in order to avoid legal issues and improve our internal procedures and controls. I also work with the back office, service team, and dispatch team to support them with financial, fiscal, and legal documentation they may need for public tenders and customer service industries. Every day there is something new to learn.”

“As Accounting Manager of Accounting Shared Services for the Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry Division, I manage different financial activities for our business unit, such as monthly financial close, statutory accounts, working capital management, taxes, audits and AOP (annual operating plan). We help operations in different ways, including managing credit; providing guidance in terms of revenue recognition rules, T&C (terms and conditions) and contract review; and conducting financial analysis to help them achieve their goals in terms of revenue expansion or expense reduction. We are really focused on our customers, which are primarily our internal colleagues. If our team is approached with customer complaints or suggestions, we accept the responsibility of solving the problem and ensuring that customer satisfaction remains at the highest level. When working under pressure, I try to have as much information as possible, be ready to provide solutions, or even better, create an environment for my team to provide the solutions by themselves.”

“As a laboratory information management system (LIMS) Consultant, my basic responsibility is to provide technical solutions for our customers. LIMS is a software program that tracks the lifecycle of the samples in the laboratory and provides functionality such as reporting, instrument integration, security and much more. This helps our customers improve efficiency, productivity, and quality by integrating the lab with their business. Our customers represent many different industries, such as pharmaceutical, petrochemical, metals and mining, as well as organizations that are involved with food safety and public health. For example, a laboratory that tests the quality of drinking water will normally receive samples from different places, such as a water treatment plant, public water sources and in-house taps. They may perform physical, chemical and microbiological analysis with LIMS to ensure all sources provide water that is safe for consumers to drink.”

“I lead a team of nine account managers who are dedicated to key accounts in the northern part of Germany. I coach and develop my team members and help them find the solutions to their challenges in the day-to-day business. All products in our Biosciences Division portfolio help researchers conduct molecular and cell biology applications. My team provides customers with everything from plastics to enzymes and kits to benchtop instruments. Our key customers are universities, university clinics and Bayer, a pharmaceutical account. My team is mainly in touch with technicians and lab managers as well as professors and principal investigators. The research fields of our customers are very diverse, like cancer research, using e.g. molecular biology techniques. Our products help them achieve consistent results more efficiently and more accurately.”

“I am responsible for the Life Science Mass Spectrometry (LSMS) instrument development at our Bremen site. In this role, I lead a multi-disciplinary and multi-national team of R&D scientists, instrument software developers and project managers. I work closely with stakeholders in other groups such as marketing, engineering, manufacturing, sourcing, quality assurance, product support and field service. Our key task is the development of high-end mass spectrometer instruments. In recent years, the Bremen LSMS team has focused on the development of two benchtop mass spectrometer instruments, the Thermo Scientific Exactive Plus and Q Exactive. These devices support our customers within proteomics, clinical research, forensic toxicology, pharmaceutical, biotech, food safety and environmental market segments.”

“The site where I work manufactures a range of products for customers to use in laboratories, such as pipettes, pipette tips, microplates and other consumables. My role is to help the operations run smoothly by providing my colleagues with all of the things they need to support the manufacturing process, helping them operate efficiently and ensuring that we deliver our products on time to our customers. I provide basic warehouse duties such as sorting and unpacking incoming deliveries, booking goods to stock, transporting semi-finished products to the production area and monitoring stock quantities. I also drive the forklift and support the purchasing, dispatching and production departments.”

“I am responsible for managing any activity that takes place within our cold chain, a temperature controlled supply chain, to ensure that we meet all statutory, regulatory and company requirements. I conduct warehouse and distribution capacity planning and ensure goods are booked in within the three-day service level agreement. The cold chain facility maintains a 2 - 8 degree Celsius environment for clinical trials materials, such as a vaccine for advanced melanoma, a biopharmaceutical that treats autoimmune diseases and ingredients used to make injections to treat multiple sclerosis. This cold environment helps extend and ensure the products’ shelf-life and maintains their quality, safety and efficacy. My other responsibilities include identifying, resolving and reporting potential health, safety and quality risks, near misses and accidents, conducing health and safety investigations, managing stock levels, as well as supporting and coaching my team.”

“As a Practical Process Improvement (PPI) Business System Process Manager, I am responsible for developing the lean culture within my plant and supporting all levels of management in the implementation of PPI. I also help the management team plan our site’s strategic roadmap for continuous development and improvement. I conduct workshops and provide individual on-the-job coaching to train employees in lean tools and provide overall support to the site as we work to source and implement process improvements. Every day I work with employees to identify problems and then find a solution. I challenge our teams to be creative and develop innovative solutions so we can achieve our targets and goals.”

“My role as a Coordinator is to make sure the sales teams are up to date on both clinical and biological informations related to our services and our competitors, including infectiology, prenatal screening, preeclampsia notably. In order to make selling comprehensive solutions easier and more productive, I'm prescribe and model field marketing and digital tools that put the right information at the right place and the right moment. I help create and update our marketing documents, analyze print and online publications, attend congress meetings and meet with opinion leaders from various departments. I also help our sales representatives prepare for meetings and presentations to customers, such as laboratories and hospitals. I’ve developed a digital marketing strategy to raise customers’ awareness of our biomarkers and support their use in clinical practice. The strategy focuses on social media, website and apps for the iPhone and iPad. This is a completely new field of communication with different challenges and rules, which is extremely stimulating and rewarding, as clinicians are eager for digital solutions to support their accurate use of biomarkers.”

“As a member of the Thermo Fisher Scientific IT Leadership Development Program, I am assigned to four six-month job rotations under our IT leaders. In each assignment, I am responsible for leading key aspects of some of the most significant IT projects taking place in the company. For example, I recently focused on developing global infrastructure services for the Global IT Service Desk.  Each rotation exposes me to various roles and responsibilities within the function and supports my fast-track development into a leadership position at the end of the program. The ITLDP program is helping me get an intensive introduction to the IT department here at Thermo Fisher, allowing me to work directly with IT leaders, and developing my personal leadership skills.”

“I am coordinating PPI Business System activities in Vilnius Biosciences Center of Excellence. Main goals of my daily work are to engage employees in continuous improvement, which results in constant increase of customer satisfaction, product quality and productivity. The key of success is that all functions are involved in PPI Business System: from operations, R&D up to office, including even suppliers. Important part of my duties is training on 8 step method and PPI/Lean tools – each new employee gets the necessary training during first 60 days. Moreover, we pay a lot of attention to deepen our knowledge and to solve problems according 8 step methods on daily basis. The team work is that I like the most - all employees accept the changes as the solutions are proposed and implemented by themselves.”

“As a member of the LSG Regional IP team, I support the BID business in tailoring global/European IP strategies. This includes close coordination with local R&D to harvest and evaluate inventions and translate regional innovation into conceptual filing strategies. My daily tasks within IP Legal include freedom to operate analyses for new product introductions, mapping of competitor technologies, patent drafting and prosecution, and coordination of outside counsel work (e.g. in European opposition proceedings). My team constantly monitors new developments in European patent law that may have implications on global drafting and prosecution to provide qualified advice to our colleagues in IP Legal to help them shape their patent portfolios. We also support the Licensing & Commercial Supply group in addressing IP-related contractual issues. In addition, I am taking care of local inventorship issues that require specific consideration under national law, such as in Germany or Norway. During the last three years, I was given the opportunity to be trained and finally qualified as a European patent attorney. The combination of jurisprudence and technological progress both of which require continuous learning makes this function particularly exciting and diversified.”
